My Sponsors Series: Jon Marlin
Jon Marlin is a great guy. He's not on Second Life very often as of late so I've not hung out with him casually as I have with pretty much all of my other sponsors at one point or another. I do have a blog entry here that references the closest thing to hanging out with Jon casually I've encountered. After sponsoring the show for over a month he was finally online at the same time as one of our games and he came down to see it in action.
He was pleased with what he saw. Jon was fast on the draw when I told him that we'd be playing a special edition of Building Shelterthe Dreams Community Fair. He immediately offered additional funding in order to cover the cost of all prizes for one full hour of the game.
Thanks to the generosity of Jon Marlin and Dan Gerstort our special event not only went smoothly but demonstrated the game to over a dozen residents who had not yet seen it in action. I'm sure we'll have increased attendance in the future as everyone who participated seemed to have a real blast. Happy Dimsum walking around and taking pictures with her awesome prim camera was a highlight for me.
When I told Travis Lambert that I was taking on sponsors to increase the prize pool for Sunday's games he recommended I contact Jon. It appears that at some point in the past Jon had contacted Travis regarding being a sponsor for the Shelter. It didn't work out, likely because sponsor slots were full or some other harmless thing, but Travis remembered the offer. I contacted Jon and outlined what we were doing. After chatting a bit and coming to an understanding Jon shared that he had been looking for some way to give back to the community. It seems he has found his philanthropic outlet. Hopefully he is pleased with the effort he is making to support the game.
I invite you to see his store in Horseshoe - Marlin Engineering. His vehicles will impress you. After you purchase your Marlin Engineering vehicle drop Jon and IM and let him know you appreciate his community support!
