New Version, New Annoyances
I sometimes wonder if software upgrades simply so developers can mess with users' minds. :)
Second Life has rolled a new update. I've not been in-world all that much lately but the few times I've been on have caused me severe angst.
It used to be no matter where your focus was on screen you would hit return and that would bring up the chat field (or send the text in the open text chat field). A few versions back, who can remember exactly when, they changed it so that you would need to click to get focus in the chat history window and press return to get text entry focus into the text chat field. An oddity I found in the interface was that you could not click your focus into an IM window, press return and have the IM chat window text field get typing focus - it would just ignore the return.
My workflow for hosting events took a hit along the way.
- it was originally:
- copy information from notecard
- leave mouse anywhere
- hit return
- paste information from notecard
- press return - job complete - text posted
- until this latest update it had become:
- copy information from notecard
- move mouse over the chat history window
- click into chat history window
- hit return
- paste information from notecard
- press return - job complete - text posted
- Now it looks like it is going to become:
- copy information from notecard
- move mouse over the chat text entry text field
- click into chat text entry text field
- paste information from notecard
- press return - job complete - text posted
We'll see this Sunday how retraining of the long dead skeleton's behavior works out this time.
