Notices Schmotices
When notices were first introduced I had some fears about their usefulness in the long term. Lately those fears have been realized lately for me. I've become a click monkey thanks to the notice system. I get so many notices from the various groups I'm a part of that I now pay attention to none of them at all. When I find a notice message in my email I delete it immediately as reading through them all would be a big waste of my time. When I login to SL I have SO MANY notices waiting for me that I just click the OK button without reading any of them. Several times I've missed other types of dialogs because I was clicking through them so quickly.
This is not anyone's fault. I don't think anyone can/should point at any particular group and complain that they're sending too many notices or whatever. They're simply using the system as it was designed. However, as a recipient of those notices I cannot handle the onslaught anymore and I'm opting out.
To turn off notices but remain in the group you can modify your group preferences. This allows you to still have live group chat. Click the edit menu and choose groups. Now select a group that sends a lot of notices and click Info. In the new window there look down the bottom and find the Group Preferences area. Uncheck the box that reads "Receive Group Notices".
Comments
We've long since switched to using Group Notices to advertise our events instead of IM spam. The Group Notices are more useful, better looking, and more easily "opted out" without opting out of the whole group, as you've just shown.
