Challenge #13 Response: Secrets Revealed
This week's challenge comes from Vint Falken. The not-a[n]-"een stokje" challenge #13 is to reveal some secrets.
I admit to being a bit scared of this one. It wasn't until Vint explained that the secrets could be something very tame, like "I love beer for breakfast", that I decided it was not a horrid idea. Many of my friends in Second Life are like myself and enjoy the pseudo anonymity afforded by the platform. Sure, the personality I share in-game is 100% me, but it's nice to have a separation from RL concerns when just hanging out in a glorified chat room.
Will anyone reveal truly deep, dark secrets in a response to this challenge? I doubt it. Will people refuse to respond because they're scared off by the idea of revealing more than they care to? Quite possible. Still, it's potentially a fun one and I'll go ahead and join in.
Second Life
I am NOT alt-free. *gasp*
That's right, I have created alts. I don't play them, though. Right after the completely free signup thing happened I went ahead and created an alt. I logged in, poked around and haven't logged back in with that one.
Later some friends and I were working on a project and I wasn't sure I wanted "Dolmere" involved. Just in case I would need it I went ahead and created an alt for that project, which I also logged in as once. However, that project fell through so the potential need was lost anyway. I'm still not sure whether or not I'd have used the alt or just stuck with my "Dolmere" account if it had gone through.
I know some absolutely wonderful people who do use alts. Their use of the alt is in order to login and relax while avoiding massive IM blasts, etc. That is to say that they are not using an alternate account to be duplicitous in any way. The idea of someone logging in as an alternate character in order to see what people think of their primary character bothers me immensely.
Anyway, that's my SL secret. No matter how I feel about alt accounts I cannot throw the stones too hard against this giant glass wall.
First Life
I have poor vision and blue eyes. I wear glasses or, rarely, contact lenses. I'm a chicken - I want to get that lazic surgery stuff so I can stop wearing glasses 24x7 but I'm frightened of the slicing portion of the operation.
In Mera's response to Coal's challenge #9 she discusses her need for glasses in RL vs wearing glasses in SL. As someone who has had to wear glasses all the time since grade school I can tell you I'm not likely to intentionally wear any in a virtual world.
Does that qualify as revealing? I hope so because that's all you're getting :)

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies
But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free
No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you
No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through
But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free
When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool
If I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat
No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

Hi Dol:
In regards to Lasic -- Go for it! I did it three years ago, after having worn glasses for 15 years. It was so amazing to come out of the operating room after 10 minutes, and to immediately see better. I took an hour-long nap, and when I woke up, I could read billboards a kilometer away through the window! And I kicked myself for not doing it earlier -- it truly is life-changing.
I did my homework first, though. I waited and analyzed clinical data on long-term effects. I chose the most experienced (over 1200 operations in the last year) and best reputed doctor in my area, and made sure he operated using the most modern equipment.
I have a whole bunch of my research material if it may be of any assistance...
Go for it!

Oh, and about the slicing part: There's no actual slicing, like with a scalpel. It's just a simple tool that allows the laser to get in there... a few seconds, a little aroma of bbq'ed meat :) and you're set to go...

I went through all the tests for the Lasik, and just before the operation, they redid them as some results where odd.
Then they cancelled.
I had to go to London for two more tests and an interview with the surgeon.
Unfortunatly my cornea looks like a golfball, eg dimples.
So they can't laser ARGGHH!
It you can, do it, everyone so far I know has been really happy with it.
My reply is on Vints blog, so looks like you got two secrets.
