Monday was a holiday and I found myself in SL and working on several things at once.
First, I was working with Bobby Fairweather on getting his secondTUNES vendors working with a project I took on for Cylindrian Rutabaga. This was apparently useful for Bobby as well as for me. Regardless I really appreciate him taking the time work on some script changes in order to meet my goal of having multiple secondTUNES vendors linked together under an additional root prim. With the promising progress Bobby and I were able to achieve I got some more work done on the Cylindrian project. I hope to get enough time to release the LSL code here along with write-ups on what it is, why you might use it, and how to make changes, etc.
(More rambling after the jump - a few pics included)
Second, I was peeking at the "Puppeteer" kit that I purchased from Todd Borst. I had heard it mentioned a few times in various BlogHUD posts. The thing that attracted me to the puppeteer product, other than the insanely affordable pricing model, was the dancing skeleton used as an example. I really wanted to just buy some copies of the skeleton so I could use them as stage props when playing live. Since they weren't for sale I bought the animation kit and figured I would eventually get around to animating a skeleton on my own.
After deciding I wouldn't get time to dig into making my own animations anytime too soon I decided to contact Todd Borst, the animation kit and dancing skeleton creator, and ask if he would sell me some copies of the skeleton. I heard back from him relatively quickly and he offered to give me what I was asking for! Todd remembers me from Building Shelter and made the offer to give me the props as a kindness in return for the game show. *sniff* What a nice guy.
I still plan on getting around to using the animation kit. I have a few ideas but the one that comes to mind right away is animating my charred fetus so that he types on the mini keyboard that appears for him to chat with.
Third, after I received the dancing skeletons from Todd I was contacted by my friend Roenik Newell. As you know Jacek Antonelli recently made me a sculpted prim bass guitar. Around the same time I had contaced Jace begging for a bass I also contacted Roe. Roenik makes animations - she is responsible for the cool "no evil" poses I use as typing animation over-rides on my main avatar. I had asked her for a bass guitar playing animation and she was letting me know that she had created a static pose to test sizing and that we could take a look any time I was available.
I popped over and modeled the static pose for Roe. She then went about editing and sending me new versions along the way. While I was modeling iterations of the static pose I went ahead and rezzed my backup dancing skeletons and got a look at what my new stage presence would look like. What a hoot! Roenik's significant other Leila was there and she asked me to pose for some pictures. Leila took some awesome photos and shared them with me. I'll post a few here. Also, since Roenik knew that I'd be playing the open mics later that night, she went ahead and slammed together an animation of me playing the bass and it came out great. Woot!
Fourth and finally, I played a couple unplanned open mic slots Monday. Rich Desoto sent out a notice that there were still a few slots available for his regular Monday night open mic so I decided I had enough energy and interest to give it a go. I played a short 5 song, 20 minute, set from about 7:40-8pm SLT.
While there I invited JueL Resistance (pronouced JOOOOOL although I really prefer my own pronunciation of JOO-ELL) to stop by if she had time and found out instead that she, too, was hosting an open mic. JueL's open mic was at her new place "The Living Room" on sim "7". When I arrived she was DJing and having a lot of fun with it. She had decided that the theme for the evening was "Rain" since the southern US is in desperate need of moisture right now. I really dug the weather related tunes she was spinning before she had me jump up and play. Unfortunately I don't have any songs that refer to rain in them so I was not able to meet the letter of her request in playing "rain songs" - but I did my best, vamped a bit, had fun, all good :) I played for a little over 30 minutes and got about 7 or so songs in.
This was a day full of firsts including first time I had stage props with me, first time I played with my skelly hands plucking the bass, first time I actually needed to trim down content in order to play, etc.
