Response: Not-a-meme Challenge #15
Jacek Antonelli threw me a curve ball a while back by challenging us to "Make a New Friend!" The problems I have had in getting around to writing this post can possibly be summed up as:
- At the time I had little in-world time to work with.
- I'm rarely away from my typical hang outs.
- Like London Spengler I prefer to keep my friends list under control.
However, since failing to respond to Jacek's challenge I've realized I have added quite a few friends. To see tons of pics and meet some of my newest friends click through to the full entry. I'm including screen snaps in PNG format so they're not compressed down. Why? Earlier I posted about how I had cranked down my viewer settings and I was asked how things look now. Ugly. Here's proof.
Claudia Mantis:
Claudia and I friended a few weeks ago. Claudia is a regular at Cylindrian Rutabaga live shows where I would usually run across her and say hi. Like many of Cyl's regulars she has a great sense of humor and a pleasant personality. She's Dutch but speaks rather fluent English.
Claudia is also a bit naive in my opinion. She's smart enough to put "I'm not looking for a relationship/sex in SL. Only Friendship ;)" in her first life profile tab, but then silly enough to also add "Yay now i hope i be safe!". Ok, that's silly since sadly no one in SL is safe as far as I can tell.
Silly, but not naive. What is naive? After posting that text she goes and places a pic of her RL avatar in there. Ummm... hello? It's nice that you're sharing yourself with us but you're also providing fodder for those who are in SL for something other/more than friendship with that. [Edit: I let her preview this write up and she changed her profile. Sorry, stalkers, I ruined it for everyone.]
I asked Claudia if she would want to share anything more about herself with you, my blog readers, and she said "Well that i love SL and specially music events.... and making friends :) dunno really hehehe. And that i love the skully av lol :)"
In the above picture can't you see my eyes bugging out of my skull? Sheesh - visit your SLibate friend and she starts fondling her SLbreasts! What's up with that?
I think Claudia even counts as someone I friended outside my typical hang, kinda. Cyl shows are my typical hang, but they're at different SL locations so I think I can cheap out and get some bonus points on this one.
Vint Falken:
Here's one that clearly counts as outside my typical SL hang. I met Vint Falken via my blog and hers - we comment friended!
To get you some pictures of this fellow blogger and recent SL friend I stopped by her display at SL4B where she was holding a "meet the artist" session. Her artwork is impressive as you've probably noticed from the stuff she posts at her blog and flickr feed. Some of it is broadly offensive, so much so that I was "broadly offended" when I arrived to see the stuff.
Vint is, like so may of the people who excel at Second Life, an incredibly creative soul. She's got an amusing sense of humor and, like Claudia, a great personality. Vint is Flemish which is quite close to Dutch. What is it with the Europeans on this list? I don't know and I'm not going to read into it.
Vint offered to educate my dumb ass American self on how Belgium is actually broken into three parts which explains how she can speak both French and Dutch. Like Silje Russel, someone I know from my earlier time at the Shelter in Isabel, Vint has an artistic flair with her English skills.
Somehow these wonderful people (Vint, Silje, etc) have a way of making you HEAR their accent with their peculiar and enchanting typonese. I remind myself all the time that their English skills far exceed my mastery of any other language and simply enjoy reading things like "Think of the childs" on Vint's campaign posters.
Dalien Talbot:
It's about time we got some testosterone represented on this list, don't you think? Dalien is a recent friend add as well. He most assuredly lands in the bonus category I think, even if he did send me a friend request while we were standing in the Shelter in Swinside. Confused? Read on...
When I decided to go ahead and attempt streaming my live bass and vocals into Second Life I invited friends and posted an SL events entry. Dalien IMed me to correct a problem with the date as posted. Very nice of him but out of the blue. Later I played my basstastic perversions for my friends and Dalien was present to check it out. Afterwards he chatted with me and shared some thoughts. We friended up and I learned that he is a live musician as well.
The next day I caught one of his, also rare, live performances. I was very impressed - so much so I started TPing in my other friends to get a listen as well. Sumar Morgan and 1Chelsea Daggar popped in to listen. He's a Russian gentleman who plays his acoustic guitar and sings accompanyment. I would describe his style as classical guitar and folk. His voice is deep, soft and enchanting.
If you get a chance to see him play live I highly recommend you take advantage of it. To find out where he is playing you can join "Dalien's personal spambox" group in-world or see his blog at http://daltonic.blogspot.com/.
Also, here are a few pictures that Looker Lumet took of Mr. Talbot.

With that I'd say I have caught up on this quite old challenge. Thanks Jacek - it was a truly great challenge and was fun to take part in.

Wow. That much sweet words. Although about the accents: I rest my case that it was on purpose! :d
(Pictures I really really dig: number four with the breasts and number fifteen from the vint series :d)

Vint's case was that it was on purpose. She had no room to put "Children" on her poster so made up a word to abbreviate it without the word "Kids" coming to mind at the time. Vint's point and mine are the same, she just doesn't realize it.

Your place looks nice Vint. Is it possible to get an LM? :) If it's public of course.

Vint's plot is right next to Myg's. You can find them here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/SL04/171/4/256/. Also read her post about the build http://www.vintfalken.com/pfieuw-almost-finished-for-sl4b/

Cool Vint, love the work. Did some advertisement on my flickr page :)

Ty, Claudia. Although the plot and exhibition will be gone when SL4B is over.
And Dolmere: No our points are not the same. Mine is that I found a practical solution, yours is that my 'English grammar accent' is cute. *grins*

Thanks for your link! (sorry I noticed it so late :-p).
And my congratulations for all your new friendships... it is hard to keep the list small, but sometimes is worth (a lot) to let it grow :-)
