Response: Not-a-meme Challenge #19
The latest not-a-meme challenge was posted by... oh yeah... me. I challenged folks (and therefore myself) to "Find and review art in Second Life."
I thought I might totally cheap out and talk about Dixie Starr's art. She has been creating paintings of avatars which are really very cool. I thought that they were cool even before she made one of me for my basstastic perversion shows. I particularly like the one she made of Chaos Mandelbrot in Pengie form.
You can find some of Dixie's artwork on display at the Shelter in Swinside.
You can also find more of her art at the Irwin & Zohari Arts & Designs Main Gallery in Limantour.
- I would consider it cheaping out because
- Dixie has been my friend for a while, so I'm terribly biased
- Dixie made a painting of my avatar, so I'm terribly biased.
- Dixie partakes in the not-a-meme challenges. She might want to review her own art. Why steal her thunder? Umm... so I'm terribly biased...?
Instead I'm going to review artwork by a new friend of mine. You see, Claudia Mantis does not have a blog where she posts her wares. She does, however, own some land on Geranium Island where she has posted some artwork of her own. She calls it "Digi Art Gallery" and there is also a "Digi Art Gallery 2" at At Ye Olde Village Shoppes on Cassowarry
She's had her art galleries in-world for only a few weeks at this point. She has sold a few items so far. If you're looking for a nice piece of art to hang on your virtual home's walls I suggest stopping by to see her work.
The art:
These were done in photoshop including her avatar's self portrait - a picture that she uses as her 2nd Life profile pic. It has a line drawing feel and comes off as hand made chalk or pencil art rather than strictly digital art.
I like the sculpture and the easels as well as the portraits themselves.
Planets, flowers, nature - digital. Nice themes. Maybe Eudy can pick up the pretty rose for Rose?
The thumb print with wild background graphic is awesome - one of my favs. Nature and nurture, botany and biology.
One thing that struck me right away about Claudia's gallery is that it takes advantage of the surroundings. In this next picture you can see that I got a snap of my favorite piece accented by the virtual world beyond. Rather than construct walls Claudia displays her art in such a way that you can see and appreciate the pretty surrounding land.
This piece has a great color palette and the imagery invokes both light and dark feelings for me.
So stop by and take a look. When you buy your own copy be sure to tell Claudia that Dolmere sent you - you might get a discount but you're sure to get a smile.
