TheSixtyOne.com
TheSixtyOne.com is the web 2.0 / social web site that has caught my attention like nothing since I stopped using last.fm.
WOOT
You may be aware that I really, really hate creating accounts on websites I don't intend to return to. A web page has to really impress me or I have to have used it for a long period of time in order to create an account there. For instance, after years and years of use I still do not have accounts at digg or slashdot, I do not twitter, it took me forever to create a myspace (which I don't really use). So please understand that this is truly exciting in my world - I'm really interested in this website and I really want to share it with you.
Take a look and please consider creating an account to get involved. To create an account just click this referrer link and then click the green square on the right hand side that offers you a free account. (the referral is to get credit for the signup and get some extra points to vote for SL artists with :)
Once you've created your account please consider listening through and "bumping" / voting for songs listed in my Second Life Artists! playlist.
A BIT ABOUT HOW IT WORKS
It's a music discovery site. So maybe think of it like going to CDBaby or Amazon to tinker around and find new music. You stumble across an artist or album and find a link to stream a song or two. After listening to a song or preview you then decide whether or not you want buy that CD.
Now add in the social aspect - maybe think of it like going to last.fm to see who is listening to what music. This allows you to get an idea of what people with similar music tastes are listening to that you are not, what they got for the holidays, etc.
So at the61 an artist uploads a song. Users of the system listen to that song on the web page. If the user likes the song they can add it to their personal playlist and if the user has enough "points" they can "bump" the song - or basically register a positive vote in for it. Points are accrued in various ways more or less summed up by saying that you earn points by being a proactive member on the site.
A NOTE TO ARTISTS
I find it a little odd how they treat artists actually. Rather than have a separated artist vs. listener points system per account they force an account to be either an artist or a listener. Why they assume an artist doesn't want to be an active listener is a bit beyond me - I think it's just a limitation of the way they chose to build the points system.
When you create an artist account you're allowed to upload three songs. Your songs can receive "bumps" or votes that become your artist bump system. The more bumps your songs receive the more points towards the ability to upload more songs you receive.
I guess you'll have to create a separate listener account in order to participate in that way.
IT STARTS!
As of now Charles Coleman (David Charles Csiszer), foxyflwr Cure (Dawn DeSimone) and Spence Wilder (David Spencer) have all posted music in artist accounts! Let's get some bumps on those great SL artist tunes :)
Comments

Glad to have you up there Kaklick!
There are now so many great SL musicians posting awesome songs that I've filled my first playlist. I've had to create a second playlist. I'll follow the same format as I create additional ones.
Here are the current playlist links:
