Different-yet-the-same continues - Hire Car

While I was on my wonderful vacation in Great Britain I got the wild idea to pick up a little notebook. I used it to jot down things that I found of interest. You know - turns of phrase, colloquialisms, verbal oddities. Things that made me go hmmmm really.

"Hire car"

"Hire car" - A rental car

I certainly got a kick out of joking around that a hire car rose up above the rest. This one is a dead give away in my opinion. After returning from the trip I was checking into the hotel and the clerk asked me if I had a personal or a hire car. I asked him where he was from in England and got a wide eyed answer of Gloucester. Hahaa. Prior to my trip I would have completely missed the phrase I'm sure - I'd have just aswered the "personal car" part and been done with it.
