Dolmere Talamasca and Chaos Noyes Standing Far Apart 2 at Wishing Land 6-15-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Actually the answer to this tends to be yes. My band had a good show recently - a reporter came out and did an interview, took pictures and wrote up a nice article about it. Before the second set, after the interview, he asked if I could scoot over and stand closer together so that he could take pictures with the full band in it. It happens.

I was there 30 minutes early. I started this show late because I had so much fun setting up the stage that I lost track of time. I looked up and saw that it was a minute past start time and I was still rezzing skeletons. Oh well :)

New Show + Artwork, Dolmere The Model!

POSTPONED: My show at Jil / David's this Saturday at 11AM has been postponed to Sunday at 11AM SLT.

NewJilPoster.jpg

I'll be playing a live basstastic solo show this SUNDAY, June 15th at 11AM SLT in celebration of the opening of Jil Dagostino and David DuCasse's art exhibit. Come for the art/photography, come for the miniatures/sculptures, come to socialize, come to "decouvir Dolmere Talamasca."

Jil and David, being lovers of skeletons themselves, have gone all out and created me my very own live music stage. Check it out:

When Jil and David asked me if I'd play their opening they also took me 'round to see another exhibit that Jil has a store front for...

Lonely Yak Roadhouse

Open mic Mondays hosted by Yxes Delcroix and Rich Desoto (Rich Palmer, musician, bass player, great guy) are always fun to attend. They somewhat recently moved their operation from Los Arboles to the Lonely Yak Roadhouse.

As always there are fun things to do while attending the show.

ChillingAtLonelyYakOpenMic.jpg

I included the description on this snapshot image that was sent to me for your amusement. It's an out of context quote of something I said during a particularly amusing round of completely off topic banter.

Winner?

AND THE WINNER IS... (*groan*):
I swear there was no funny business! The Max/Mimi/Dol/Toby relaycast won the party pick thingie - http://rezzable.com/blog/vint-falken/t61-party-gardenstock-the-publics-favourites

This was our first four way relaycast - adding Toby Lancaster (McAllister) to the mix as lead guitarist.

Feline Slade took more great pics of this show.

Todd is the genius who created the scripted prim puppeteering tool and created the backup dancers I use on stage. This avatar is his DJ Reaper avatar. It's cool but could use some mods to make it more Dolmere imho.

Maximillion Kleene lays down the arrangement and provides the song that Mimi, Toby and I layer on top of. It's been a real joy working with Max, a lot of fun doing this relaycasting style collaboration.

Mimi Carpenter thesixtyone party at the Garen of NPIRL Delights 6-7-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Mimi provides her lovely voice, some percussion, a bit of guitar work at times, and healthy dose of sexy to the relay mix.

Toby Lancaster thesixtyone party at the Garen of NPIRL Delights 6-7-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! This was our first set with Toby as I mentioned. Toby had been rehearsing/practicing to some recorded three-way-relay shows and did a Max/Mimi/Toby show while I was on vacation as well. We pulled in about two hours of rehearsal before the garden show which helped I think.

Ultimately I'm very pleased with the whole relaycasting experience so far. I think I'm going to stick with it :)

SL Veterans Push Back Boundaries In SL Live Music Presentation For Cancer Benefit

Second Life, June 8, 2008 – Second Life Residents and long-time collaborators Spence Wilder and Nomad Rovio are today formally announcing an exciting live music presentation to benefit the ACS Relay For Life 2008 SL campaign. The event, entitled "Ride for Relay" will offer an immersive live music experience, set in the London Underground and will feature techniques not used before in Second Life live music presentation. There will be two performances of the show this coming Wednesday, 11th June at 11am and 7pm SLT/PDT that are open to all live music fans, kiosks to benefit the Relay For Life campaign will be available to accept donations for this worthy cause!

The event itself has been greatly aided by a network of supporters including the Relay Raiders RFL Team of which Rovio is a member and Skybeam Estates who are providing the region where the event will be located. "Our special thanks go out to Nevar Lobo and Charlene Trudeau who answered our rally call instantly and have gone that extra mile to help ensure this project came to life" said Rovio and Wilder.

"This will be an exciting event that adds a new dimension to live music presentation in Second Life and one which we hope will not only raise a substantial amount of money for Relay For Life but also continue to raise awareness of the campaign, one in three of us will have our lives touched by cancer, one in five will die and we need to change that! Every little really does help and the research, the support and other activities the ACS are involved with make a difference, it's my hope that folks will come out Wednesday, enjoy a great show and maybe throw the price of a burger or a cup of coffee in a kiosk, it's a small price to pay, this may be a virtual world but cancer is very real and together we can make a difference!" said Rovio, himself a cancer survivor. "I've lost a number of people, seems I keep losing people to this damn thing so for me this is a big deal, we need to make that difference!" added Wilder.

About Spence Wilder

Second Life troubadour Spence Wilder has been doing his solo acoustic show in-world for over a year. Haven't caught it yet? Expect the unexpected. Taking "unplugged" to new heights, Spence plays the widest variety of cover songs you'll ever hear in one show. And he'll play some original music and tell some stories too. Just back from the dead, he's a ghost, a neko, a zombie; he's just a guy. But his shows will make you smile and turn it up. C'mon, all the cool kids are doing it...

You can find out more about Spence Wilder and his real life counterpart Lonesome Dave Spencer and hear some songs here:

About Nomad Rovio

Nomad has been in Second Life close on 2 years, a supporter of the live music scene, builder and former live venue owner/promoter he is currently working on a number of projects that span RL/SL music. In real life he works for a London based music label and is currently producing an album, he is also a regular on the live DJ circuit and a Broadcaster.

Dolmere's Basstastic Perversion Info (Press Kit)

This entry contains information about Dolmere's Basstastic Perversions - bass and vocals only "live music" performances within the virtual world of Second Life.

(Dolmere, pronounced Dole-mare, if you care)

BIO

Dolmere Talamasca is a resident of Second Life who has worn many hats since his account creation in September of 2005. He's been a volunteer and greeter at The Shelter. He has built and hosted game shows, booked live music at The Shelter and The Shelter in Swinside, he's been a vendor with free items from his Building Shelter game show, inexpensive T-Shirts and more.

Dolmere's most recent endeavor is as a live musician strictly within the virtual world of Second Life. Dolmere uses GarageBand to pre-record backing tracks with his bass guitar and sings live over the top of that. By recording multiple tracks he is able to "round out the sound" of a song with an instrument that is not typically used in solo performances.

Towards the end of 2006 he decided to look into the idea of performing solo shows with just his voice and his bass guitar. He started listening for and making notes of songs that would be best "basstastically perverted" or performed with a few bass tracks while still managing to convey the meaning of the original piece. Around the middle of May in 2007 Dolmere started performing his live shows in Second Life. He's been adding songs and friends since then.

Relaycasting Revisited

Max and I played an impromptu relaycast show at the Coconut Palms last Saturday. Max played about 3 songs solo, then we played about 6 or 7 together, and he closed the set with a few more solo.

Emme Eales took a few snapshots of the show and was kind enough to share them with us:

1Max+DolCoconutPalms-Emme_Eales.jpg

One might note that I am wearing my Keiko undies having recently returned from a typically kick-ass show of hers. She played Tenacious D's tribute all the way through. She teases people with a little riff from the song all the time. This was a first for me hearing her actually perform the full thing. FUN!

2Max+DolCoconutPalms-Emme_Eales.jpg

On sunday Mimi, Max and I played a triple relaycast show at the Bellagio club. It was a full hour of internet audio stream relay fun!

Maximillion Kleene in Canada was playing guitar, singing, keeping time and managing the arrangements (busy man!) and sending his audio stream to Mimi. Mimi is in Germany where she picks up Max's stream, blends her vocals, rhythm guitar and tambourine into the mix and then streams it back out to me. I'm in the US where I tune in Mimi's combined stream, add my bass and occasional gutteral utterances on top and send that final stream out to the great world of Secon Liff (no tm).

After the show some folks sent me snapshots of the performance to share with you:

Last Week's Show In "PURGATORY"!

Mallow Niven brought me back to perform at club Purgatory again last week. The lovely Feline Slade was on hand to take some screen grabs for us to enjoy.

Here I am doing the SL live music shuffle:
Dolmere Talamasca performs at Purgatory 3-20-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Dolmere Talamasca and oversized Mini-Me at Purgatory 3-20-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Dolmere Talamasca dwarfed by tip jar at Purgatory 3-20-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I like to do silly things at each show for no apparent rhyme or reason. This time through there were not enough prims to rez all the stage dressing I wanted so I rezzed my wooden rug, one dancing skeleton (that I forgot to animate), my microphone (KAKLICK MARTIN!! ROCK!) and my tip jar. The last thing out was my tip jar and things just didn't look - well - I wasn't pleased with the overall look. So I blew the tip jar up to monster proportions and felt much better about the stage I would be performing on.
*That's a good little tip bear! Who loves tip bear?*

Various friends and Basstastic Perversion group members joined us for the show. It's a nice intimate club and a great place to just throw an ad-hoc party.

Beth Odets at Purgatory 3-20-2008 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Beth Odets attended and seemed to enjoy herself. I think she saw me play three shows in a row or something like that. At what point does one burn out on bass and need a month or two off? Three shows? Four?

Howto Relaycast (For Mac OS X Users)

What Is Relaycasting? | Howto Relaycast (Mac OS X) | Howto Relaycast (Winblows)

Here's one option that you could use to setup relaycasting on a Mac. Since I broadcast using GarageBand (installed as part of every new Mac), Nicecast ($20 or so streaming tool), and Soundflower (an "extra" built in to Nicecast) those are the apps and screenshots you'll get here.

I have a 2 channel Mackie Onyx Satellite Recording Interface which is a firewire audio input device. I use it to get my bass and microphone inputs into GarageBand and to monitor performance. To do relaycasting I need to take that audio and layer it on top of what I'll be listening to in iTunes.

There's no way in GarageBand to simply "eavesdrop" on what iTunes is playing in a live stream directly. A tool that comes as an extra with your copy of Nicecast is called "Soundflower". Soundflower allows you to redirect audio on the system.

Open Nicecast and in the Nicecast menu click on "Install Extras..."

NicecastExtras.jpg

Click the Soundflower tab and install the utility.

Some info about the Soundflower tool that appears in that dialog window:

thesixtyone.com - Torley Arrived and In-world Notecard Invite

I thought I would get around to sharing the content of the in-world notecard that I have been sharing with people as an invite to thesixtyone.com.

I have to admit to feeling a little miffed, if even mostly on the "as a joke" side.

The Infamous Digg Entry

The below notecard was created on 2008-01-05 14:16:10. I've edited it a few times since then to correct some links and add a bit of extra detail. The Digg article where I found and fell in love with thesixtyone was posted on about 2007-12-11 (Digg - Thesixtyone: Music discovery game connects indies and fans). I started recruiting people in IM almost immediately and things started gaining steam over that three week or so period before I created the below notecard and eventually the SL group.

In that time I sent the invite to most everyone on my friends list and just about everyone I came across at the many live shows I frequent in-world. I dropped the notecard on Vint Falken several times with gentle nudges in IM to read it and please consider joining us on the site. Claudia Mantis, a lovely friend of mine whom I invited early on from my FL, finally got Vint on there by kicking her in the hiney and basically ordering her to sign up. WOOT - great move Claudia. Except... ummm... Vint seemed to completely forget I had ever even asked.

Torley SHOULD Be On There!

I also dropped the notecard on Torley Linden which I thought was kinda brazen at the time knowing Torley's schedule. I followed it up with an email because that is Torley's preferred method of "drop me an email and I'll file it and get around to it as I can" operation. Just for the hell of it, and I can't imagine Torley having a fit over posting two of his sentences that came through email:

Howto Relaycast (For Windows Users)

What Is Relaycasting? | Howto Relaycast (Mac OS X) | Howto Relaycast (Winblows)

Since I have not really had to touch the Windows OS since about Y2K I cannot tell you how to setup your Windows PC thingie for relaycasting. Instead I have some information volunteered by fellow SL musician Raspbury Rearwin.

[BEGIN RASP INSTRUCTIONS]

This should work for most people. Some soundcards do not allow this option, in which case, they'd need a way to get the sound from their computer to mix with their live stuff. Either a cable from the computer or the best way is if you have two computers. one to capture the incoming stream, and one to broadcast.

What is Relaycasting?

This is the first in a 3 part "howto" about relaycasting into Second Life.
What Is Relaycasting? | Howto Relaycast (Mac OS X) | Howto Relaycast (Winblows)

"Relaycasting" is a term that refers to internet performances where the audio streams are layered on their way to the audience.

Sam Hokin (SL: Astrin Few) and Flaming Moe were likely the first to use this technique back in 2005. You can read about it and download their performance at Sam/Astrin's website: http://www.bsharp.org/sam/music/AstrinFew/index.html

To understand how relaycasting works it might be best to revisit how audio streaming works in the first place. Internet radio has been around for a long time (hail Green Witch). Today's DJs and live musicians in Second Life are using the same basic technologies powering the internet radio stations that you may listen to on occasion. With tools like nicecast (Mac OS X), simplecast, SAM and others it is possible to submit an audio stream for remote internet users to tune in to.

For a much more complete review of audio streaming as it relates to live music in SL please read Jaycatt Nico's Streaming Primer.

The Party Raged On

Saturday marked a VERY successful 61 bump party along with the Get It Together release party. Reginald Beck is a trooper! He coordinated this party and managed to put together 11 hours of live music! Bree Birke was amazing - thanks go to her and her venue Nitida ridge for the space, the atmosphere, the community support and the hosting.

The two sim mainland venue was nearly packed all day long and was completely full during the Get It Together song debut as the song was repeated 5 times to a delighted audience.

RFL Show Recap and Change of Venue Tonight

Thursday I played a solo basstastic perversion show for the Relay For Life fair. Mimi Carpenter joined me at the beginning of the set for a quick relaycast of a few songs. It was our first time streaming with just the two of us so that made it extra fun. The songs are basstastic perversions with Mimi singing (and playing a little guitar too!) over top of it.

We'll be doing this again tonight due to an unfortunate turn of events. My 6PM show at SoHo has been cancelled due to unforseen RL interruptions for the venue hosts. Luckily for us there is a backup plan with a nice twist - I'll join Mimi at Nitida ridge to perform on that stage. Instead of us each doing 15 minutes solo at our respective venues we will instead perform a Max+Mimi relaycast at Nitida ridge before Max joins us to complete the hour with our threewaycast.

Tonight, Sat. March 22nd at 6PM SLT at Nitida ridge - SLURL

Here are some pics of the RFL show that Feline Slade took:

Feline says: 'Vint Falken pledged a L$5000 donation to Relay for Life if Dolmere Talamasca sang the word "God" as part of his perfornace of "Closer", the Nine Inch Nails song, during his RFL appearance. A memorable event, for certain.'

Dolmere Talmasca, finally Closer to God | VintFalken.com

This time around I really sang the line as originally written. Vint offered to donate 2,500L to RFL if I sang "g-d" in the song. I replied that there were two instances where I might say it so was she willing to pay 2,500L per instance. Jaycatt Nico's Streaming Primer

Jaycatt Nico's Streaming Primer is no longer available at blog.slmusic.org and I could not find it elsewhere on the interwebs. I asked Jaycatt for a copy of it to post here. It's "old" but the information is still valid.

Streaming Live Music in Secondlife
A primer by Jaycatt Nico
Version 1.0 - 10/18/06

Hello there! I've been playing live music in Secondlife (SL) for almost two years now, and the question I get asked most is "Hey, I'm a musician in real life (RL) too! How can I get started playing music here in SL?" I decided to make this Notecard to explain some of the process and steps involved. Now, this Notecard only deals with PCs (not Macs) because that's where my experience is. Hopefully someone will develop a Macintosh primer soon.

How does music get into SL anyway?
Whether it's a radio station, a DJ playing music, or a live musician, music ends up in SL the same way. Each plot of land in SL has a "Media URL" (a web address, such as "http://33.42.152.1:8000") associated with it (actually two; one for audio and one for video, but we'll focus just on the "audio" one here). The owner of the plot, or qualified members of the Group that owns the land have the ability to change this URL. Sometimes, an object can also be used to change this URL if the owner or member has set one up. The URL connects to what is typically called a SHOUTcast (or ICEcast) stream. You may have run into SHOUTcast streams before outside of SL, where they are sometimes referred to as "internet radio stations".

Do I need any hardware to do it?
Well, at a minimum, you simply need to have a way of recording sound. Keep in mind that the quality does depend on what equipment you have. It's possible to buy a $10 microphone, set it up to record whatever happens in the room, and start playing away, but the quality can be pretty poor. Ideally, you will want to provide inputs for each instrument and microphone you will be using. If you're just singing a capella, you might be fine with a single microphone. But, add in a guitar, or piano, or whatever, and you'll want a way to combine the sounds. The best way to do this is with a mixer, which you might have already. The mixers puts all the different sound sources together and sends a single signal to the PC. There are all kinds of mixers, if you don't have one, ranging anywhere from $50 to $500 or more. The mixer I use, a Phonic Helix Board 12 USB Mixer (http://tinyurl.com/y6aalg) actually connects to the PC with a USB cable, providing a digital signal, instead of plugging directly into the PC's microphone jack. However, it runs about $200.

Okay, I've got the equipment I need to get the audio into the computer. What software do I need to collect it?
I recommend using plug-ins for Winamp, because Winamp is free. Winamp can be downloaded at http://www.winamp.com. There are two different plug-ins for Winamp that can be used to listen to the audio and send it to a URL: the "SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In" and the "Oddcast Plug-in". You can get by with the DSP Plug-in for most cases, but if a venue is looking for an ICEcast stream, and not a SHOUTcast one, you would be better off with Oddcast. Oddcast will do both, but it takes a little more set-up time. You can even have both installed, if you want, and switch between them.

No one's told me I need to use ICEcast, I think I'll use the "SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in".
It's a good place to start! After Winamp is all installed, you can download the Plug-in here: http://tinyurl.com/9me9w. Contact me if the link does not work and I can help find it. Install the plug-in, and select the "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP" choice under Preferences-->Plug-ins. I'll explain what to do with the settings later. You'll eventually need to work with the "Output", "Encoder", and "Input" tabs.

I think I'll install the Oddcast one instead, how do I do that?
Setting up the Oddcast Plug-in so that you can use an MP3 stream is a bit trickier (the SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in does it by default) but if you ever have the need to send an ICEcast stream, then you'll want to be using Oddcast. The latest version can be downloaded here: http://tinyurl.com/y88g7o. Contact me if the link does not work and I can help find it. Next, visit this link: http://tinyurl.com/yxd2ks. Save the "lame_enc.dll" file to your C:\Program Files\Winamp directory. Now, open up Winamp, and select the "oddcast DSP v3" choice under Preferences-->Plug-ins. I'll explain what to do with the settings later.

Great, I've got it all installed... Now, how do I get the audio I'm collecting out to a URL then?
First, a bit of background. When people visit a plot of land in SL that has a "media URL" set on it, their computer connects to the URL (the "server") you are using and starts requesting data from it. Your own PC can be the "server", but you have to have a pretty fast internet connection to keep up with the demand. Most cable and DSL lines won't cut it. Some college and business internet connections might. Keep in mind you may have upwards of 30-60 people attempting to listen in, and that's a lot of data to "upload" to people. The other alternative is to "rent" bandwidth on a remote PC, and people will connect to that. He's not paying me anything to say this (honest!), but since you are using Secondlife, the cheapest, most robust rental I've found is managed by "Jamie Otis" (Search for him in-world and I believe there is a kiosk for renting on his "Picks"). At the time of this primer, he charges $4000L a month (approximately $14 US). You can also go out with Google and search for "shoutcast hosting", but most of those services are expensive (somewhere between $20-$80 a month).

I'm feeling lucky and techy (or are very short on funds) and want to use my own PC as the "server"!
This can be pretty tricky to set up, but I'll describe what needs to be done here, without getting too specific (since hardware and internet connections vary). Odds are you have a "router" that your internet connection plugs into, and your computer is connected to the router. Most routers have a firewall in place, and you will need to configure your router to allow traffic attempting to connect to a certain "port" (ie: http://22.115.6.12:8000, where "8000" is the port) to be directed to your PC which is running the server software. Depending on which router you have, this can be easy or difficult (or sometimes, not even necessary!) You will also need to know the IP of your internet connection (which can be found here: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and will show up at the top of the screen). The server software can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/ygwre6. Contact me if the link does not work and I can help find it. Once the server is set up, there's a little configuration involved but it's not too tricky. There's a text file you can edit, picking which port and password. Contact me if you get this far (if I haven't already confused you) and I might be able to help walk you through the rest of it... ;)

Okay, I think I'm ready... I know the IP address, the port, and the password and now want to start sending audio to it!
Great! All you need to do is configure the plug-in you are using.

I'm using the "SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in", how do I set it up?
First, let's look at the "Output" tab. Choose "Output 1" and make sure the "Connection" (not "Connect"!) button is selected. In the "Address" box, put the IP address or URL you got from your shoutcast server provider (either Jamie Otis's or other). If you are using your PC as the server, leave it as "localhost". Same with "Port" and "Password"; use the ones provided by your provider or what you picked if you are running your own server. On the "Encoder" tab, choose "MP3 Encoder" and for the "Encoder settings" use "96kbps, 44.100kHz, Stereo". If people complain of the audio cutting out or skipping, you can choose the setting for "64kbps" instead. On the "Input" tab, change the "Input Device" to the input your audio will be coming from (could be "USB Audio" for instance, or "Soundcard input".). Check the levels here as well, to make sure you're getting a strong signal. Don't forget the "Push to Talk" and "Lock" buttons, in case they are needed to get the signal to show up! Now, go back to the "Output" tab, and click "Connect". Hopefully, everything will connect, and on the "Main" tab, you should see the Status say something like "Encoding", etc. And you're set!

I'm using the Oddcast Plug-in, how do I set that one up?
Click the "Add Encoder" button, and right click on the encoder it created and select "Configure". On the "Basic Settings" part, change the "Encoder Type" to "MP3 Lame", and change the Bitrate to "96". If, when you're streaming later, people complain of the audio cutting out or skipping, you can change it to "64" instead. Next, pick a "Server Type". Normally you will want "Shoutcast", but "Icecast" is also available. In the "Server IP" box, put the IP address or URL you got from your shoutcast server provider (either Jamie Otis's or other). If you are using your PC as the server, leave it as "localhost". Same with "Server Port" and "Encoder Password"; use the ones provided by your provider or what you picked if you are running your own server. If you are using an Icecast server type, you will also need to fill in the "Mountpoint" box with the correct info. Click "OK" to close the Configuration window. Back at the main "Oddcast" screen, click the red X covering the picture of the microphone, and pick where the audio is coming from (could be "USB Audio" for instance, or something else that describes your soundcard.) Also, pick the input next to that, such as "Microphone" or "Line In". You should see levels in the "Peak Meter" area moving as the audio is broadcast. If it says "Off" next to "Peak Meter", click the area to the left of the words "Peak Meter" and they should show up. If all looks good, right-click on the new "Encoder" listing you created and choose "Connect". Hopefully the "Transfer Rate" area will change from Disconnected to Encoding, and you're all set!

Feel free to contact me in-world if you have any questions and I can try to help. I'm fairly busy these days but hopefully what I've written above will get you started!

Beatnik poetry night with Rosa, Patrick and Jaycatt!

Poetic (What Is This Crap?)

BlogHUD : Rosa Gardner - Beat Poetry

BlogHUD : Beat Poetry

Rosa Gardner, Patrick Lasalle and Jaycatt Nico are all great people to know in Second Life. Jaycatt and Patrick are both live musicians while Rosa is a music fan and poet. She posts stories and poetry at her blog sometimes.

Recently the three of them have worked out a mechanism to perform as a trio. I don't know the technology that they used but whatever the deal was the audience really got the feeling that they were in the same room bantering with one another. [Edit: OK, Rosa says in the announcement that she is in voice. My question is more how Patrick and Jaycatt synchronized their musical queues.)

These are called the "Live Music Poetry Jams" and it was their third. If you get a chance you simple must get out to see one.

Rosa's adorable invitation looked a bit like this:

"We interupt your regularly scheduled Camera View to bring you this N.E.W.S. :)

N- New Date for POET NIGHTS BEEN RESCHEDULED!!!
March 10th , 2008 7 p.m. slt

E- Exciting Locale (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lingmell/37/102/37)

W- What is Poet Night? Beatnik style fun theme .. Jaycatt Nico and Patrick LaSalle return to play some great background music as I share some poetry in voice.

S- Special! It will be if you are there to share the evenings fun!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Camera View ........."

Thanks go to Crap for reminding me about it as I was actively missing this cool event for a third time.

Upcoming Basstastic Solo Shows

I'll be playing some solo performances in the coming weeks and thought I'd give you a heads up as to times.

This Friday - the 14th of March at The Merry Pranksters 7PM STL

The 20th of March at the Relay for Life benefit - 4PM SLT

The 22nd of March at SoHo - 6PM SLT

I'll likely be playing 1 or 2 relaycasting shows with Max and Mimi every weekend going forward as well. See you around.

Notices with landmarks will be sent to my in-world group as we get closer to each show.

While we're at it here are yet more pictures - Max, Mimi and I did a relaycast show on Sunday at the Champlain College Campus sim. Both Feline Slade and Sally Silvera took some screenies.

On this one Feline asks "Do you think that Dolmere thinks that the other two have cooties? What are you doing way back there?". Answers: 1) At a Max show moving your avatar is a health risk. 2) It's a giant stage! Shouldn't we use a little of it? 3) I was really lucky to be standing there at all - just as we switched streams (poorly thanks to a nasty stream skip) my avatar went flying off stage left.

I do miss the old prim heavy skeleton. I often flirt with the idea of jumping back into those bones but I made the skin only version for a reason - sim lag. It was getting real nasty and I felt like I was contributing. Now playing shows along with Max I would REALLY feel like I'm contributing since he regularly fills the sims he plays.

Our First LIVE 3 Person Relaycast!

Max Kleene had a show at Kaiya islands, The Bay island, today. Mimi Carpenter and I tagged along to do our first live three person relaycast show. Max started the show off with three songs, then we connected together and we played 5 songs together, then Max completed the show with a few more songs.

There were about 100 people on the sim to watch the show which was very Max-like.

Feline Slade was there and took some screen pictures which she posted to her Flickr account:

WOW! Jil Dagostino!

Mimi Carpenter invited me to see her friend play at A&G stage yesterday morning. After his set was complete the stage was open and she asked me if I'd like to play. What the heck? I had only just recently woken up nice and late on a Saturday morning but I figured it would be a great start to a weekend of music.

Jil Dagostino was in the audience and seemed to enjoy my performance at least a bit. Today Jil contacted me to share these awesome visual gifts with me!

Just LOOK AT THESE FRIKKIN AWESOME THINGS:

Another Max Relaycast Success

Tonight was an Old Salts Pub reunion show. For one day only the Old Salts Pub build was resurrected and people were invited to come party nostalgic-like for a cause - RFL cancer research.

I sent a notice to the Dolmere basstastic perverion in-world group. Some of my friends came out to see. Old Salts was a popular place to play so the 4 sim build was practically full by the time we started. We were told that there were 130 people present before Max started his first song and Max was told after that we had a total of 150 at the height during the performance.

Last night I did one of the cooler things I've been involved with in SL in a very long time. Max Kleene was kind enough to agree to work with me on some relaycasting. We chose two songs and practiced together and then played them live for folks at the Los Arboles open mic. It was a whole lot of fun and exactly the type of thing I've been looking for lately.

Look for Max and I together in the future as we're likely to continue the SL collaboration.

SoHo Recap

I played at SoHo this past Sunday. It was a 5PM SLT show. I was scheduled to play after Rookie but he was unable to make it due to something that came up IRL. Max Kleene filled in with a last minute set that really had me smiling. He started at about 20 after the hour and played until about 10 after the hour. During that time he played songs off the cuff - just whipping out tunes that he hadn't done in a while or that he just wanted to tinker with. It was SO much fun! I am jealous of people with that kind of talent and their ability to just riff with it - I need to do a good deal of work to prepare a song for basstastic perversion so I really don't get to play around like that.

I love playing a show after Max. There is the downside of watching a full sim dwindle down to a half dozen people. It's tough for that not to make one feel bad, but at least I get to play to a packed house for the first song or two after he leaves the stage. It's bound to happen - he fills sims regularly and our styles are VERY different so I wouldn't expect his crowd to just hang around.

Max's voice is great, his song choices are top notch and his playing is excellent. I really enjoy sharing the stage with Mr. Maximillion Kleene. Sunday was a fun evening and I thank Andrea and Max for both making it happen and making it fun :)

I took some pics of Max playing for you to enjoy:
