Shelter Shenanigans

Friday was a big day - a bunch of the Shelter regulars met to discuss the fate of Swinside - or to listen to Travis discuss it anyway. :) The meeting was going really well until it took a left turn at language rules and went plummetting off the rails. It was a good hour of struggling before things were back on track. Is fuck still a swear word if you use it as an exclamation and not to denote a sexual act? What's the difference between offensive nudity and ignorant nudity. If you haven't got any "bits" to show, are you still naked if you take your clothes off?

Anyway, long story short, it was decided that Swinside will stay under the Shelter aegis, but have a different flair. FireEyes wants Second Fortune to be in Wingo, so it will go there, but Building Shelter will stay at Swinside - at least on Sundays. More space there. Thursdays show has always suffered from poor attendance, so it's felt that someday soonish it will move to Wingo to give that a try. Wingo, for those of you who I've now confused, is where the stage at the main Shelter is. The main building straddles the border of Isabel and Wingo.

I have heard a rumour that Trivial Obsession will remain in Swinside, which is nice. :)nnSwinside will also continue to provide live music - Dol's got the schedule lined up starting in February, I think. Jacek and Mera both are interested in teaching building there. Jacek taught her first class today. We'll have to see whether there's enough demand to teach building every week - or maybe just once a month or something. And no, we're not setting up to rival NCI, it just seemed to be a good fit: class on building, followed by a building game show. Or in the reverse order works too.

The lag is much less evil in Swinside because there's no infohub. At least, that's my suspicion of what the cause is. I'm going to act as a sort of facilities manager for that location to make sure that stuff doesn't get scheduled during overlapping times. Hopefully this responsibility will kind of strong-arm me into spending more time in world. That would be good.

In other news, I showed Mera the new swamp skybox I bought. Very cool. I love Thili Playfair's stuff; it's got such good atmosphere, even if it is crazy on the particles. :)

The Lost Posting

I hate it when I've a nice entry all written out and then something happens and I lose it all. :( I wrote last night about hosting my first full length episode of Building Shelter yesterday. I was poking around doing some other stuff and hadn't hit publish yet. And *wham* laptop overheated and I lost the whole kit-and-caboodle. No, I do not know what a caboodle is. (pause while I run around in circle because there was a big hairy bug in my office!!!) The Brewer's Dictionary tells me that one's caboodle is one's possessions. Who knew? Well, presumably the folks at Brewer's, I guess.

Okay, so back to the story at hand. No, not the big hairy bug (but eeewwww!). Hosting Building Shelter was loads of fun, especially since I was able to get the stage all set up this time (okay, I cheated and got Dolmere to help before he had to head out). Speaking of... er, typing of Dolmere heading out, I get to host the game show for the next couple weeks because he's off on vacation. We had a fairly good turnout, and happily < href="http://meratalk.com/reina/">Reina was there to back me up in my hour of need as I spaced how exactly the system worked (what, it's been months since I hosted, and then it was one round out of four!). In a show of solidarity (purple-darity?) I tinted my hair tips purple. My current 'do is also from ETD, but since I've no issue with tinting my locks, Elikapeka's new textures don't really affect me.

I was particularly happy to be able to include a slurl-type URL (secondlife://Swinside/221/72/38) in the IM reminder announcement, thus staving off the round of "TP please?!" messages. Well, except the one from Merle, because he's like that.

My secret theme was me getting a little burnt because I was working crazy hours (although that's good for the paycheck) and that I miss SL when I'm away. Yeah, okay, so it wasn't an easy one to guess. I'll do better next time. Work is coming under control this week, I think. It's just a matter of getting a handle on the schedule for my new position and learning that I don't actually need to be on the job 24-7, it just feels that way sometimes.

After the game, we hung out and watched Sal become Salzilla. That elephant av of his is so fun because you can call out colours and patterns and he'll become those shades. Sal-zilla is the large Tokyo-squishing version of the original, and is featured below.

Following this, I went and looked at some lawn furniture. My beloved shack by the lake disappeared in one of the random disappearance-fests that went on in the last few months. Obviously I use it a lot since I only just noticed it's gone. :D Very beloved indeed. I"m not sure whether I need a structure to replace it or if I just want some seating so that folks can come rusticate if they so desire. :) They can always sit in the innertubes, but it's always nice to have other options.

And now to return to my regularly schedule there-was-a-bug-in-my-office-paranoia!
